In case you haven’t heard, the popular Dateline series, My Kid Would Never Do That is back and is a wake up call when it comes to the choices our kids make versus what we teach them. To give you some background about the show, with the help of parents and child behavior experts, Dateline’s hidden cameras capture children as they make critical choices focusing on specific topics, such as stranger safety, driving while texting, gun safety and more. Parents and experts watch as the surprising, revealing scenarios unfold and share tips that will help children prepare for these situations in real life.

As parents, we can preach to our kids about not getting into a stranger’s car or never picking up a gun out of curiosity, but we never really know what decisions our children will make in an actual situation. Liz, Cole, Executive Producer of Dateline encourages parents to watch this series with their children and says, “Each hour takes on an issue that keeps moms and dads up at night, and provides concrete advice that will help parents teach their kids to do the right thing.”
I am so excited and proud to take part in a project that is not only educating our children, but their parents as well. This series can literally help save a child’s life and open a parent’s eyes to a situation they may never have thought to discuss with their kids.
When I told my two older boys, ages six and eight, that they would be participating in a gun safety program for television, they were of course excited but insisted they didn’t need any education when it came to guns.
My kids would be put to the test and I would be watching. I don’t want to give too much away about the scenario or the outcome, but below is a picture of my reaction, so you can make your own conclusions…for now.
All I can say is to tune in on Sunday, June 21st at 8PM and watch as my children are faced with life changing scenarios, while I look on to see if they practice what I preached.
I believe all kids should have gun education, whether their parents own one or not. We tend to think about the importance of gun safety within our own home, but what about at someone else’s house, for example at a playdate? A few months back, I completed a study and polled parents regarding gun safety and will release my findings in a few weeks, which will also include tips for parents on how to approach both their children and other parents when it comes to firearms. This is really important material not to be missed, so make sure and check back here at MommyMasters.com and on the The Mommy Masters Facebook page for updates on when my article is published.
